One Card Could Change Everything

When Meredith Llewelyn lost her father last year, grief arrived with an unexpected companion: silence. Her dad had lived a remarkable 95 years, a man of deep faith who was still reading his Bible cover to cover in his final weeks. Losing him was profound. And what made it harder was that the community she had hoped would show up, didn't.

"I wanted arms to hold me, a shoulder to weep on," she said. "I wanted that 'midnight' friend who would just show up."

When our team heard of her loss, of a family grieving a man who had faithfully supported Mission Without Borders for many years, everyone stopped what they were doing and picked up a pen. The card that arrived changed something in her.

"Even though you were in Sydney and I was far away, with the words in your card, you sat with me in my sorrow."

That experience forged a conviction. Meredith began writing cards to others for every season, not only grief, and that small act has since sparked a card-writing ministry in Brisbane where a group now prays over cards each week and sends them to people they feel led to reach. Without exception, every person who has received one has said the same thing: "You have no idea what this did for me."

As we heard her story, we thought of every one of you who writes to the family or child you sponsor through the Mission. The same act. The same message. Carried across thousands of kilometres to someone who may never have received a handwritten note from anyone. Your words, however simple they feel, could be the card that changes everything.

One card. One conversation. One act of Christlike care could change everything.
